The content of this page is actually the "foundation stone" that is indicative of what Adamas is about.

The beginnings of Adamas were all due to Youngstown native, Mr. Clarence Smith Sr. Mr. Smith had a love and fascination of fossils and minerals from around the world. He had a small shop in a barn not far from this location. Mr. Smith's son would inherit his father's passion for nature's beauties and continue the legacy. After Mr. Smith's passing in 1970 Clarence R. Smith, Jr. would relocate the shop to the present location. A simple sign in the front yard read "The Rock Shop". If you visited back then you were treated to a visual display of some of the rarest specimens in the world. Nationally recognized, it was a museum and gathering spot for many rock hounds. It was the only shop locally for craftsmen to purchase jeweler's supplies. The years passed, the collections grew. As interests in lapidary and gems increased, the shop provided customers with rare and exquisite cut, polished gems. A new name was established for "The Rock Shop"- Adamas. It is a Greek word meaning diamond, the hardest and strongest  rock in the world. A fitting name for this retail business that continued to grow.
 Judy Rafoth established a gift shop and bridal registry within Adamas in the 1980's. It was known as Adamas Showcase of Gifts. Just as the Smith's offered lapidary treasures of the world, Judy provided decorative accessories from around the world. 
The "Rock Shop" collection was displayed within the store until June 16, 2001. Clarence Smith, Jr. donated the collection to Youngstown State University. Named the Clarence R. Smith Mineral Museum, students will certainly be enriched by the uniqueness of the collection. Many specimens are now only seen in select museums.
Today, Adamas Jewelry and Gifts remains true to it's beginnings. There is a gorgeous group of one of a kind stones available. They are hand cut and polished stones by the Adamas master jeweler. Marshall, with Adamas for many years, carries out this lost craft with utmost precision. He is also the jewelry repair expert. The following pictures are a sampling of what is available. All can be viewed in a dedicated case in the jewelry showroom.  In a seperate case are geodes and minerals as seen in the pictures below. Perhaps the most interesting pieces offered is the fossilized coral. Once an irregular shaped whole, it is cut revealing a world of shapes and textures within.
